Story

I’m sleeping out.

On the 22nd of June 2016 I will sleep outside the Family & Community Services building in Wagga, alongside colleagues and community partners. We will be joined by hundreds of other CEO’s, executives and teams across the country this week as part of the annual Vinnies CEO & Community Sleepout.

While my one night out in the dark and cold will be uncomfortable, it will not even begin to compare to the hardships of a person experiencing homelessness on our streets this winter. For one night I can give up the comforts of home knowing that – by doing so - I can bring warmth and hope to those who need it most. This is my chance to raise awareness in their honour by participating in a powerful national movement that will literally save the lives of thousands.

105,000 Australian’s spend each night on the unforgiving streets of our towns and cities. Countless others are staying with relatives or friends, in shelters and temporary accommodation, dreading the day when there is no one else to help them. ONE NIGHT CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

By participating in this event I am doing my small part to make sure the doors stay open for all that need them. I am also doing this to be an example to my team and peers. I hope for everyone to live a life full of compassion. Every gesture of support matters.

Please be as generous as you can and support my sleep out effort. Know that as I lay awake on the pavement that night, I will be thanking you for your support. The money you give goes directly to Vinnies who have one of the lowest cost to fundraising ratios. This means that the majority of funds goes directly in helping the most needy in our community.

Join me in reaching out and supporting those who are hurting.

Thank you for supporting my sleep out.

St Vincent de Paul Society NSW (Vinnies NSW)

The St Vincent de Paul Society in NSW has been helping the community since 1881. Every day, the Society's 16,000 members and volunteers help vulnerable and marginalised people in their local communities by visiting them in their homes, providing assistance and referring them to other services when needed. Last year our local member networks provided around $20 million worth of financial and material assistance to hundreds of thousands of people experiencing disadvantage.
